The Celos experiments on silviculture with natural regeneration in Suriname (Paper on a case study for the Workshop on the Management and Conservation of the Tropical Moist Forest Ecosystem, held in Cayenne, French Guiana in March 1990) N.R. De Graaf and R.S.A.R. Van Rompaey
Subject(s): In: (1990),pp. 214-229 Summary: A case study is given of the fifteen years research from which the finally resulting data led to the formulation of the CELOS Silvicultural System. In this polycyclic system, after a strictly controlled selection logging, the increment of the remaining populations of commercial timber species is stimulated by several refining treatments during the felling cycle. This is necessary to reach a sufficient production level, and also to promote regeneration of the desirable species. Conditions leading to the specific set-up of the research are discussed, as is the methodology. Results are briefly given. Prospects for analogous systems in tropical America are discussed, and establishing of more demonstration areas than exist now is proposed.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | |
